About The Gallery 1001

Mission

The Gallery 1001 COOP is comprised of artists whose purpose it is to support a vibrant community for all artists by providing an opportunity to promote, exhibit, and sell regional art in an effort to enhance professional development among artists, and to benefit the community as a whole.

History

The Gallery 1001 Coop was originally the the brain-child of a few local artists who decided that our city needed an Art Gallery. They were right. However, after their original location sold in 2011, the members were forced to seek another building space to house the fledgling gallery. As it turned out, Mike and Ann Fell purchased what originally was known as the “Old Higginbottom Grocery.”  Work began immediately to restore and refurbish the 140 year old landmark and, in October of 2012 The original 1882 structure at the corner of 10th Street and Main in downtown Winfield, Kansas, officially opened as The Gallery 1001. A number of the original artists are rill members of the Co-Op. It is also worth noting that the Gallery 1001 is now listed as one of Winfield's Historic Buildings. We are all quite proud of our home for art here in Winfield and look forward to meeting our guests and travelers from out of town.

One of the great things about being in a small town or city is the support we receive. We are grateful to the citizens of Winfield as well as other nearby towns and cities here in Cowley County. We are very grateful for the support provided to us from the Winfield Arts and Humanities Council, the Marquee Performing Arts Center, and all of the businesses on Main Street. It is through their support along with the  combined efforts of our patrons, member artist, local guest artists, and our residents for their financial support and their efforts to keep art alive in the community. It is our greatest desire to offer the widest variety of art and artists to display in the Gallery with no prejudice.
